Board Traffic

Postby Olorin123 on Sat Apr 01, 2017 8:39 am

So as I posted already, I am coming back after a very long absence. One of the things that I am perceiving is that there is MUCH less traffic than I recall there being on my last go around. This has been bothering me. With our drug of choice being more available than it was even 5 years ago, it would seem like there is even MORE need for a board like this and not less. I would have thought traffic would be up, not down. So what's going on?

I think it may be a thing of dilution-there are more sites and more resources available for helping folks with this addiction. Also, I think Wes is less involved now, so there's likely less promotion. More posting ought to lead to more activity, though, so you can have an impact. Cross posting on other sites might help as well, since google listings are partly determined by cross links with other, similar sites.

An interesting question on many fronts. I do think dilution could explain a lot for example there is an active discussion on reddit. It may depend on several factors many cultural and social, for example, those in their 20s/30s may prefer the immediacy of a reddit style interface. I imagine the demographics of this board is for an older crowd. Also, it may be that p* isn't quite as sensational as it once was. It's so easy to get just by hopping on the net so it may be that it's not quite as attractive as it used to be; which is why p* companies are always pushing the boundaries of technology and acceptability to make p* more alluring (such as with virtual reality).

But, it also takes active participation by a dedicated small percentage of this board (or any organization whether religious, charity, sports or whatever) that is the real impetus to keeping the effort going. Having managed several of these type orgs, I can say it really is a dedicated few on the order of 10% that does keep things going.

But, we are here for us even if it's not a large group.

...and perhaps this is also a starting point for many people, and hopefully they then also go on to find face-to-face help.
