Encouragement Challenge

Postby Stillstruggling on Tue Apr 18, 2017 11:13 am

Hi, friends!

This idea can be found several places elsewhere on the forum but I'm posting it as a new topic to get it moved to the top.

I'm very recently back on the boards after a three-year absence and a humongous relapse into pornography. I'm ashamed of that and rightly so, but I don't intend to let it define me.

I've been ENORMOUSLY helped by several board members who've taken it upon themselves to offer words of welcome back and encouragement. Particular thanks to mb9185, hope(less), drbob1a, and constant_vigilance.

Here's the challenge: I work with interpersonal relations professionally. Often in times of crisis or stress people don't say anything because we don't know what to say. But we don't have to offer expertise or wisdom: "I'm praying for you," "I'm thinking of you," "Hang in there," "Keep up the good work," "You can do this." It is of tremendous benefit to people going through times of trial just to know that they're not alone.

Let me challenge you, friends, go to somebody's journal, go to somebody's post, and just say something simple to let them know you're with them in this. It doesn't have to be original, it doesn't have to be profound, it doesn't have to be lengthy. You have no idea how much it helps.

I was in a bad place when I came back to the board. I'm in a better place now, and it's in large part due to those who've let me know they were pulling for me. Thanks much and God bless.

Hank

Welcome back. I too am back after a long absence and I am struggling. I am struggling right now with not violating any of my bottom lines but I am also struggling with "finding my way" here again. You aren't alone.
