Feeling Suicidal?

Postby Wes on Sat Dec 06, 2008 6:39 pm

Many of us have come to deep points of despair, often involving feelings about our addiction. Many have even felt suicidal. Some members of this board who have been there before you can offer you support, but if you are feeling suicidal you should immediately call:

24 Hours

Please call whenever you have such feelings. You'll get an immediate response from people who can really help.

Joseph_ep wrote:Hi Wes,

I wonder if you would consider adding to this thread the phone numbers for people in the UK, when they are feeling suicidal?

The main ones are:

The Samaritans - 08457 90 90 90 - which is a 24 hour support line for any kind of difficulties.

Breathing Space - 0800 83 85 87 - which is specifically for people experiencing depression and thoughts of suicide. It is open Mon - Thu 6pm to 2am, and Fr - Sun 6pm to 6am

Hope this is OK. I work in the mental health field and I know many people really value these lines, but also many others don't know about them.

Thank you, and a huge thanks for these boards and how they help me personally.

Just trying to be a really useful engine.

I have read that extreme emotional volatility is a common symptom of withdrawal from sexual acting out. I have fantasized suicide many times during this process and when it happened most recently I finally went sought help. I was treated for depression and prescribed medication and I have felt much better for some time now.

As Wes says, if you are fantasizing suicide, get help. Even if you don't think you are serious (as I felt), there is no need to suffer in isolation. There are a variety of ways to combat these symptoms but most of them involve seeking assistance.

I concur wholeheartedly with Wes & JohnG. A book that helped me pull back from the brink several years ago, was Kathy Cronkite's: "On the Edge of Darkness: America's Most Celebrated Actors, Journalists and Politicians Chronicle Their Most Arduous Journey" If interested, here's a link to it at Amazon.com...

Thanks Wes. I am learning not too brush off any of my emotions. I open up to my family and I have gotten medical help for my depression and suicidal thoughts. It takes time to get healthy but my life is much better.

Can I ask something? Is there any information for those related or connected to a person who might be that ill? After 'truth day' h went to a B&B. I don't know what it was but the nxet morning he took ages to respond to his phone/texts. I had a bad feeling. Overactive imagination? I asked if he was okay and he said he was fine. I haven't felt the same way since but would like to be informed. He does seem much better than then, btw, or I would be ringing the doctors now. Work isn't good though...

I've had many fantasies about suicidal thoughts . I've always wondered what my family and friends would be like without me if I left this world . These thoughts mainly come from the death of my uncle who committed suicide several years ago . I suffer from depression but am on medication . Thanks for the phone number, Wes .

Just want to reinforce the message - STOP - don't act impulsively. Take time, talk to someone ring the number Wes has given.

It might seem very black at this moment in time, but imagine how much those you love would suffer even more living with the knowledge? They'd be forever wondering if there could have been something they could have said which would have changed your mind.

Besides which you are unique and the world would lose a little bit of the uniqueness, it wouldn't be a better place without you.
