Wes,
Let me add my voice to the many in praise of Ten Keys. If any addicts or partners of addicts have not yet read it, I urge them to do so right now. If I ever work up the courage to be totally open with my SO, I will start by showing her this book.
Three things that stood out for me:
* We use P to deaden some kind of pain, but P can never make it go away and will tend to make it worse. Sometimes we just have to learn to live with that pain.
* Helping or serving someone else in difficulty can help us in our own recovery.
* The importance of opening up to another individual and the benefits that will bring.
The third one is my stumbling block at present. But your book will push me past it eventually. You started from a much more abject place than me (I've never crawled under a house to get to P or MBed in a moving car) but now you've been sober for a very long period. If you can do it, I can.
